I got to sneak out yesterday and I landed this 11 pound trophy of a Hawaiian Bonefish. Of course I was using my Torque T-10 on my Burkheimer 9 weight and it perfomed flawlessly as anything you make always does.  I have recently written another article about Hawaiian Bonefishing this time for "Japanese Flyrodder". So Aloha, Mahalo and I am proud to say I am a Galvan Guide.
Captain Terry Duffield (Coach Duff)

I guide and flyfish every day in one of the toughest flyfishing environments in the world. My guides, my clients and I use Galvan Torques every day all day in Hawaii and they have performed perfectly for giant Hawaiian Bonefish, Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, Marlin, Trevally, Shark you name it! They have been dropped, stepped on, kicked and beaten in every way imaginable and they keep coming back for more with no complaints or loss of performance. We will always be a very loyal user of Galvan Reels as long as I am head Guide/Owner of Coach Duff's Hawaiian Flyfishing. Thanks for making something "New School" in weight, appearance and drag with "Old School" toughness, durability, and reliability and made in the USA pride. We mean that with much Mahalos!

Dear Galvan,

On a recent trip to Ascension Bay, Mexico I had the day of a lifetime and managed to catch a super grand slam using my Galvan T-8 and T-10 reels.  It sure makes a difference when you have a lightweight reel with a great drag.  Here are photos of the fish and you are welcome to use them on your photo gallery if you like.  Obviously, I love my reels and look forward to many more fishing memories using them.

Tight lines!

2005 marks my 23rd year of guiding across the West with the past 15 based out of Missoula, Montana. I met Boni Galvan some 12 years ago while selling trips and equipment at a sport show in CA. After listening to my spiel for selling then the most popular machined fly reel to a potential customer, Boni produced a small fly reel from his pocket and ask my opinion of it. Instantly impressed with the smooth consistant drag, rugged simplicity, and overall weight I really wanted one but it was just too small for our big rivers and trout. The next year Boni produced a larger size which I bought on the spot. I am still using that reel today! The same Galvan has subdued fresh water fish including thousands of trout up to 34", steelhead over 20lbs, northern pike over 3 feet long, and bass topping 5lbs; not to mention baby tarpon, bones, jacks etc. in the salt. The reel did fail me once, I didn't know it wasn't designed to fish in salt water just gaving it a quick rinse after a day of bonefishing. The salt locked it up but after a short turn around back to Galvan it continues to perform flawlessly - and I try to take a little better care of it. Now Galvans adorne all of our rods.

My thousands of days on the water affords me an opportunity to see how virtually ever reel made performs in real fishing conditions. I have seen the most expensive reels fail and some cheapies work better than they should but the bottom line is Galvans are the best reels on the market for the money - period. When a client asks me which reel to buy, no matter what I expect they can afford, I always recommend Galvan. I stake my reputation on them and you can too.

Good fishing-

Dear Galvan,
Thank you for a wonderful product!! you have made guiding that much
easier and more enjoyable for me and my clients. Your reels are the
smoothest and most durable product on the market.. Our clients lose
fewer fish due to the awesome drag of your reels. Here are some photos
and testimonials..these are just a few I have over 300 pics with
steelhead caught on your reels..

I generally don’t write companies about their products unless I have a problem but I feel I need to in this case. I was in the market for a new reel when my Ross Gunnison was stolen out of my car last year. To my horror I found out that they no longer produced them, so I started looking around. I talked to numerous people and they all said the same thing “GALVAN”.

I purchased the OB-3 Green and use it on both a 4wt and a 5wt rod. I must say, even though I own around 10 reels from Orvis, G. Loomis, and Ross, this reel so impressed me that I bought a second spool and second reel.

I love this reel as it handles everything I can throw at it from Carp, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and large browns..

Keep up the great work!

Dear Galvans,

I recently sent in for repair a T-5 that I banged up. To my surprise,
it was back to me in less than a week, completely fixed and with no
charge! Outstanding service and something for which I expected and was
completely prepared to pay. Thank you very much.

The reel itself is terrific, light, tough (unless you bang it hard on
rocks) and has a nice smooth drag. I am a reel nut and own quite a few
different reels, so I really appreciate the quality of your reels. Will
spread the word.

Thanks again.

I bought a Galvan Torque T-6 in clear thru Stillwater Outfitters in Sunriver, Oregon about 2 weeks ago. Just wanted to say how impressed I am with this reel...especially the feather-lightness of it. With my Xi2 7 weight its an awesome combo that is a blast to use on Snook and Reds here in FL. I also like the fact its made in CA (my home state). Keep it up!

Hello from Alaska, Well I am happy to bring you good news. The 2006 silver salmon overall money winner was me. I would like to thank Galvan Fly Reels for the reel that made it worth fishing the tournament last year. I believe this is the best Fly reel made today. I will not fish another reel. Thanks once again to the Galvan team who works hard producing what I think is the best Fly reel in the world. Yours in Sport

Thank you! My new neoprene reel pouches showed up this week and I was busy searching through the packaging looking for my Visa receipt when I discovered you had shipped them no charge. You certainly did not need to do that, but once again you are reinforcing to me why I bought my Galvan reel and why a new Torque is in my future. Your product is first class quality and your customer service is ‘over the top’ outstanding. I bought the reel 3 years ago on the recommendation of a fly shop, some great product reviews, and very positive comments from bloggers on the internet. My first experience with your service was amazing. A friend of mine backed up his car and unknowingly ran over my rod and reel, not visibly damaging the reel but causing the spool to rub the frame a little bit on every revolution – enough to annoy me. I took it back to the fly shop and asked if they could ship it back to you for repair. He said ‘ sure, and they do have a lifetime guarantee so they might repair it at no charge’. Maybe 3 weeks passed and the fly shop called me to come in and pick up the reel, and much to both of our surprises, when I opened the box there was either a brand new reel inside or one that was so perfectly repaired it looked like new again.

So…you are truly one of those companies that gets it right. I hope you never get so big that you lose sight of how you built your reputation.

Please accept my sincere thanks for going above and beyond to please your customers. And now I think I’ll go back to a couple of fly fishing websites I visit regularly to post a comment about my great experiences with your product and your service.

Have a great day!

Ian

mrs. galvan, you responded to a question i asked regarding bearings and based on your response i purchased a rush 6 and cannot for the life of me see why this reel in not more popular here in florida, i will be showing the reel off to everyone including the fly shop i deal with, outcast fly shop in hommosassa fl, one more question, the rush 8, i see listed as 8oz in some places and 6.8 in others, can you verify actual weight. thanks.

Hello John,
I have been using the Torque reels exclusively since their conception. These
reels are extremely durable and dependable. Last year I landed at least 100
tarpon on the t-12 and t-10. Lately we have been fishing offshore and catching
several black fin tunas and false albacore. These reels handle everything
beautifully. The drag system is excellent for landing large fish on light
tippets and can hold enough backing for everything I fish for here in the keys
including Sailfish and large sharks.
Another thing I like in these reels is that I can carry extra spools with
different lines for all types of conditions. For traveling you can't beat this
option. Removing and adding the spools is very simple and I have had no
problems with them since I started using them.
I am sure you will enjoy using the Torque reels.
Sincerely,
Capt. Justin Rea

Hi Carmen,

Got the spey weights a while back but didn’t get to try them until last weekend thanks to record rains here putting all the rivers out of shape for an entire month. Here’s my preliminary report…

Great product! With a more balanced rig I found my shoulder noticably less fatigued at the end of the day. I think it makes casting easier for sure, but the biggest difference is during the swing when I am holding the rod high and out over the current to manipulate the drift for the slowest (best) possible presentation. Without the weights, my rod tip wanted to drop down to the water and I had to fight to keep the tip up during the first half of the swing. With the weights it was much easier to control the rod. Now I have a T12 reel that perfectly balances all 3 of my 2 handed rods! (13’ 7wt T&T – T12 with no weight, 12.6’ 9wt Echo – T12 with 1oz weight, and 15’ 9wt T&T – T12 with 2oz weights).

Just a quick note to say thanks.
I purchaced an OB4 from Feather-Craft in St. Louis at the recomendation of one of their guys.(Tim)
It balanced perfectly on my new rod like it was meant to be there.(5wt G.Loomis Stream Dance GLX)
What a great reel! I cought 70+ rainbows in 3 days and it did nothing but impress me the whole time I was on the water.
I have never owned a reel with such a high quality drag. It was incredibly smooth and very consistant in its behavior. Fish after fish, wet or dry, 50 degrees or 90 degrees, same smooth controled drag.
In a marketplace filled w/ $250+ American made reels with pretty coatings, fancy features, and complex drag systems a guy can get a little overwhelmed. I am glad I listened to the advice of an expert. You have created the best reel money can buy.
Tell everyone who works there I said thanks and keep up the good work.
You have new customer for life.

Sir/Ma'am,
I have owned a standard 3.0 for approximately 4 years. I received this reel as a high school graduation present. Probably one of the best gifts I have ever received. I have used this reel to catch numerous trout on the White and Little Red Rivers in Arkansas. I have also fished with it Pennsylvania. All the time this reel has performed consistently well! Prior to Christmas I was able to go steelhead fishing in the tributaries of Lake Erie. Since, as a college student I didn't have any money lying around to buy a new reel that would be more suitable for this trip, I took along my reliable 3.0 with 5-weight line. The reel once again performed well and the drag was excellent in helping me to land close to 30 steelhead over 2 days. This past weekend I once again went steelhead fishing and landed 9 more in 4 hours of fishing. By no means am I anything other than a novice fly-fisherman, but with your reel I was able to feel confident in my ability to land large fish. I truly appreciate the quality of your product and one day will buy another Galvan Reel.
Very Respectfully,
Ryan Dickson

Hi Carmen

Just thought I would drop you a quick note for some feedback on the two Torque reels I got from you on your guides program last September.

We are a bit over half way through our season and the Torque reels (T5 & T6) have been fantastic. Myself, clients and other guides I work and fish with love the reels. They have caught large Tasmanian trout, Bonefish on Christmas Island (T6) and on a recent two week fishing / guiding trip to the South Island of New Zealand they were the clear favorites of all the anglers on the trip (they had Waterworks, Ross, Lamson and Galvan to choose from).

The Torque excels in all aspects of fly reel design, I can't recommend your reels highly enough and they are an asset to any fly fisher.

Regards
Simon

Hi guys,
A couple of things. Just wanted to say how fantastic my new Galvan T6 is. I have had it for almost a year and have caught about 100 bonefish, numerous trevally and of course a lot of big NZ trout. I can't recommend it highly enough, and has taken over from my Lamson as my favorite reel.
I am now using it on the rod I guide with.
I have a couple of nice shots I will forward to you for your gallery.
Now I just have to save up for a couple more for when I take some clients back to Christmas Is....
Thanks
Dan

Dear Sir or Madam,
First of all I want to start out this letter by saying that I think your company Galvan Fly reels makes some of the best fly fishing reels on the market. I have had the privilege of testing out your products on and off for the last year and am amazed at that not everyone in the fly fishing and tying world has caught on to them. Actually during many of the classes that I teach I am intrigued to find that many individuals in my region, the upper Midwest do not really know much about you products. I started using your products when I was out west fishing the many early spring dragon and damsel hatch's and have been using them ever since because they simply are better then all the rest. I am very impressed with your company and the products it distributes and most certainly would very much like to become a contributor to the Galvan team to try and help get the word out.

I have fished all over the world the past twenty years. Recently fishing Golfito Sailfish Rancho in Costa Rica, I decided to try the Torque 12 reel as my primary reel. I was amazed how the reel performed. I hooked nine sailfish and landed every one of them in under 20 minutes! A large part of that was due to the awesome smooth drag on the Torque Reel. My next trip is to the Florida Keys for tarpon and my reel of choice will be the Torque. I truly believe it is the best reel on the market. Not only for the quality and construction, but price as well.

Hey there-

I'm a fishing junkie that manages around 100 days a year on the water...I just thought I'd share with you my latest fishing adventure that involved one of your reels….
So for the last couple of years my buddy Matt Klara and I have taken an annual week long fishing trip each October to fish for steelhead. This year my old Lamson 4 reel was really showing some signs of wear and tear so Matt let me borrow one of his Galvan T-12 reels for the trip. (The guy loves Galvan). I caught the two most ass-kicking fish I have experienced on a fly rod while fishing this reel: a 27-pound Chinook (my first salmon) and a 19.5-pound steelhead (see attached photos). All I can say about your reels after those babies is that I'm so glad I was using the Galvan as opposed to my old reel. The reel acted flawlessly with these brutes. My next reel for my spey rod will definitely be a Torque or a Rush 12 (it sounds like they are very similar, with the Rush having less machining).

Anyway, Kudos on your design. A couple of the high points in my view:
1. The drag doesn't change in any discernable way when the reel gets dunked. This is very important to me as I spend much of my fishing time chest deep on sketchy ledge rock, slippery boulder fields, etc. Most of the time both my reel and I are wet.
2. I like the weight inserts…this is a huge feature for spey rods that nobody else has. It really helps balance out the big sticks.
3. The drag adjustment needs to be turned a lot to change the drag. This is beneficial in that you can't accidentally knock the reel into a free spool situation (which I have done with other reels.)
4. Huge line capacity…one of the problems with many "large arbor" reels on the market is that they don't have the room for lots of backing in addition to a thick spey line. I really appreciated this feature when the Chinook was a ridiculously far distance downstream in heavy current.
Okay, that's all for now…just thought I'd pass on some positive feedback on your product.
Regards,
Niall Boggs

I truly love your reels. I think I may have already sent you an email explaining this, but this past season I replaced my entire collection of reels (Marryat, Ross, Orvis, Sage and Lamson) with Galvan reels. I now own a nice collection of Standards, OB's, and Torque's that are matched up with rods ranging from a Sage 00 wt to an RPLXi 10 wt. What can I say!! I am sold on the quality, looks, clean machining, anodizing, etc. All of your reels are solidly built, high quality, and reasonably priced. There are not many things in this day and age where you can get all three!! Keep up with the great product lines, you have a lifetime customer in me.

Thank You, Paul McRoberts

I recently bought one of your Rush reels and can't believe how nice of a reel it is. This is my first Galvan reel and I am definitely buying more. I own or have owned Ross, Lamson, Bauer and some other lesser priced reels and I have to say The Galvan is the best reel I've ever owned, Very durable and the smoothest drag I've seen in a disk drag reel. I wanted to thank you for offering a reel this good in the price range I can afford and tell you that you have a life long customer.

Thanks, Ryan

Your reel is almost as pretty as this Mcloud river rainbow I caught at crane creek, in Crane Missouri, thanks for making such a durable and good looking reel.
